Archiving and long-term preservation policy
of the scientific journal “Demography and Social Economy”
The scientific journal “Demography and Social Economy” ensures reliable archiving and long-term preservation of published materials in order to guarantee their permanent availability, preserve scholarly output, and support the principles of open access.
- General Principles
The journal adheres to an Open Access policy, providing free, unrestricted, and permanent access to the full texts of all published articles. Archiving is carried out to ensure continuous access to scholarly information regardless of technical or organizational changes.
- Electronic Repositories and Platforms
2.1. All journal materials since 2020 are stored in the electronic editorial and publishing system Open Journal Systems (OJS), which provides:
- centralized storage of articles, metadata, and supplementary files;
- data backup;
- the possibility of integration with international archiving services and repositories.
2.2. Issues published during 2004–2019 are available on the website: https://dse.org.ua. The archive includes all issues and individual articles of the journal without any time limitation on storage.
2.3. An electronic copy of the journal is stored in the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
2.4. Repositories provide unique identifiers (DOI) for each item, facilitating search, citation, and data integration.
- Technical Means of Preservation
To ensure long-term preservation and accessibility of materials, the following technical solutions are applied: regular data backup; storage of copies on independent servers or cloud resources; use of standard file formats (PDF, XML) ensuring long-term readability; maintenance of stable URLs and persistent identifiers (where DOI is available).
- Accessibility Guarantees
The editorial board takes all necessary measures to ensure continuous access to the publication archive, including: maintaining the functionality of the journal’s website; restoring access to materials in case of technical failures; and the possibility of transferring the archive to third-party repositories in case of the journal’s discontinuation.
- Self-Archiving
The journal allows authors to deposit (self-archive) published versions of their articles in open institutional or subject repositories, provided that the original source of publication is properly acknowledged.
- Compliance with International Standards
The journal’s archiving policy complies with open science principles and the recommendations of international organizations regarding long-term preservation of scholarly publications.
The editorial board of the journal “Demography and Social Economy” continuously improves archiving and preservation mechanisms to ensure the reliability, accessibility, and safeguarding of scholarly materials for future generations of researchers.
